LG Refrigerator Not Cooling in Las Vegas? 3 DIY Fixes

Is Your LG Refrigerator Not Cooling in Las Vegas? Try These 3 DIY Fixes First

When the Las Vegas summer hits 110°F, your refrigerator works overtime. If you open your LG fridge only to be greeted by warm air and melting groceries, panic sets in quickly.

1. The Desert Special: Dirty Condenser Coils

Las Vegas is dusty. Combine that dry desert dust with pet hair, and your refrigerator’s condenser coils (usually located at the bottom back or front behind a grille) will get clogged. When these coils are suffocated, the fridge can’t release heat, causing the internal temperature to rise.

The DIY Fix: Unplug your refrigerator. Remove the base grille or the back panel. Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to carefully clean the dust off the coils. Doing this every 6 months is the #1 way to extend the life of your appliance in Nevada.

2. Frost Buildup and Air Circulation Issues

Is your freezer freezing perfectly, but the refrigerator section is warm? Your LG fridge relies on a fan to push cold air from the freezer into the fresh food section. Sometimes, the auto-defrost system fails, causing thick ice to build up over the evaporator coils and block the air vents.

The DIY Fix: Check the vents inside the fridge and make sure no food is blocking them. If you suspect heavy ice buildup behind the back panel of the freezer, you can manually defrost the unit by unplugging it and leaving the doors open for 24 hours – but it is not going to fix initial problem (Note: We know going 24 hours without a fridge in Vegas is tough, so if you can’t wait, it’s time to call a pro).

3. Decoding the Beeps: E FF or E rF Error Codes

LG refrigerators are smart. If your fridge isn’t cooling, you might see one of these common codes:

  • E FF (Evaporator Fan Fault): The fan that blows cold air is stuck, often due to ice buildup.
  • E rF (Refrigerator Fan Motor Error): Indicates an issue with the fan motor itself or the wiring.

The DIY Fix: A hard reset (unplugging for 10 minutes) can sometimes clear a glitch. If ice is blocking the fan, the manual defrost method above might solve it. However, if the fan motor is burned out, the part must be replaced.

When to Stop DIY-ing and Call the Experts

Troubleshooting is great, but modern LG linear compressors and electronic boards are complex. If you’ve cleaned the coils and checked the vents, and your fridge is still failing to cool, playing with electrical components can cause more expensive damage.
