Troubleshooting guide

Common oven and cooktop problems and how we fix them

The cooking-appliance problems we fix most often, and what you can safely check first. If you smell gas, don't troubleshoot: leave the house and call Southwest Gas.

Gas oven won't heat

Likely causes

  • Weak hot-surface igniter (glows but the gas doesn't open)
  • Failed oven gas safety valve
  • Control board or temperature sensor fault

Try this first

Look through the window: if the igniter glows for over 90 seconds without flame, it's almost always the igniter.

How we fix it

We measure igniter current, replace the igniter or valve and verify flame and temperature.

Electric oven won't heat or heats only on broil

Likely causes

  • Burned-out bake or broil element
  • Failed temperature sensor
  • Relay or control board failure
  • Blown thermal fuse

Try this first

Look for a visible break or blister on the element.

How we fix it

We test the element, sensor and relays and replace the failed part.

Oven temperature is off or bakes unevenly

Likely causes

  • Faulty temperature sensor
  • Convection fan motor failure
  • Worn door gasket or hinge
  • Calibration offset

Try this first

Place an oven thermometer in the center rack and compare after 20 minutes at 350°F.

How we fix it

We replace the sensor, gasket, hinge or convection motor and calibrate the oven.

Gas burner won't light or keeps clicking

Likely causes

  • Burner cap misaligned or wet
  • Cracked spark igniter
  • Moisture in a spark switch
  • Failed spark module

Try this first

Make sure the cap sits flat and the burner is completely dry. Clean the ports with a pin.

How we fix it

We replace the igniter, switch or spark module.

Electric or induction burner not working

Likely causes

  • Failed surface element or infinite switch
  • Induction power board or coil failure
  • Cookware not induction-compatible
  • Touch control fault

Try this first

For induction, test with a pan a magnet sticks to.

How we fix it

We replace the element, switch, board or coil.

Door locked after self-clean or error code on display

Likely causes

  • Door lock motor or switch failure
  • Control board fault
  • Sensor out of range

Try this first

Turn off the breaker for five minutes to reset the control.

How we fix it

We read the fault, replace the lock or board and confirm normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about oven repair in Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City.

How much does oven repair cost in Las Vegas?

Most oven and cooktop repairs cost $160–$500 in total; control boards and induction boards run $300–$800. The $75 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.

Why is my gas oven not heating?

In most cases the hot-surface igniter has weakened: it glows but doesn't draw enough current to open the gas valve. It's a common, affordable repair.

Do you repair Wolf, Thermador and Viking ranges?

Yes, including professional-style ranges, rangetops and wall ovens from Wolf, Thermador, Viking, BlueStar, Monogram and Miele.

Do you install or connect gas ranges?

No. We repair gas appliances but don't run gas lines or connect new appliances.

Why does my burner keep clicking?

Moisture in the spark switch or burner, a misaligned cap or a failing switch. Let it dry; if it keeps clicking, the switch needs replacing.

Do you fix induction cooktops?

Yes. We repair induction cooktops and ranges, including power boards, coils and touch controls.

My oven door is locked after self-clean. What should I do?

Let it cool fully and reset the breaker for five minutes. If it stays locked, the lock motor or switch has failed.

What warranty do you offer?

Every repair includes a 90-day labor warranty and up to 1-year parts warranty.
