Technician diagnosing a range and oven in a Las Vegas home

GE Oven Error Codes (F Codes): What They Mean and What to Do

GE oven F codes point to a failed part: F0, F1 and F7 usually mean the control or keypad, F2 means the oven got hotter than it should, F3 and F4 usually mean the oven temperature sensor, and F9 means a failure in the door lock circuit. Turning the breaker off for a few minutes can clear a one-time glitch; if the code returns, GE recommends a service technician.

Try this first

  1. Turn off the oven and switch its breaker off for 5 minutes, then restore power.
  2. If F2 appeared during self-clean, let the oven cool completely before resetting.
  3. Gas oven? If you smell gas, leave the home and call Southwest Gas from outside.

Codes and their meaning can vary by model and production year, and the same code can have different causes. Where sources disagree we say so; in every case the exact cause is confirmed only by a technician's on-site diagnosis. Your owner's manual has the definitive list for your model.

Stay safe

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before touching anything inside it, and never open a sealed refrigeration system, a gas valve or a microwave. If a code points to a part, the part has to be tested before it is replaced; we do that on the $75 diagnostic visit, credited toward the repair.
