On LG dishwashers, OE means it isn't draining, IE means not enough water came in, FE means overfill, AE (E1 on some models) means water reached the base, bE means too much foam, LE is a wash-pump motor fault, HE a heater fault and tE a temperature sensor fault. Clean the filter, check the hoses and use only dishwasher detergent; LE, HE, tE and AE that won't clear need a technician.
Try this first
- Turn the dishwasher off and switch off the breaker for a few minutes.
- Clean the filter and check the drain and inlet hoses under the sink.
- Use only automatic-dishwasher detergent — regular dish soap causes foam and bE codes.
Water codes
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|
| OE | Drain error | Clean the filter, check the drain hose and disposal connection. |
| IE | Not enough water entered | Open the supply valve; check the inlet hose. |
| FE | Overfill | Turn off the water; usually an inlet valve fault — call. |
| AE / E1 | Leak — water detected in the base pan | Find the leak (door seal, hose, foam); the base must dry before it runs. |
| bE | Too much foam | Wipe out suds, use dishwasher detergent only, run a rinse. |
Motor, heat and sensor codes
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|
| LE | Wash (circulation) pump motor error | Technician repair. |
| HE | Water not heating, or tub too hot | Technician repair. |
| tE | Water temperature sensor error | Technician repair. |
| nE | Spray diverter (Vario) motor error | Technician repair. |
| PF | Power was interrupted | Restart the cycle. |
Codes and their meaning can vary by model and production year, and the same code can have different causes. Where sources disagree we say so; in every case the exact cause is confirmed only by a technician's on-site diagnosis. Your owner's manual has the definitive list for your model.
Stay safe
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before touching anything inside it, and never open a sealed refrigeration system, a gas valve or a microwave. If a code points to a part, the part has to be tested before it is replaced; we do that on the $75 diagnostic visit, credited toward the repair.
