LG Refrigerator Not Cooling in Las Vegas? 3 DIY Fixes to Try First

If your LG refrigerator isn't cooling in Las Vegas, try three things first: vacuum the dusty condenser coils, check that frost or food isn't blocking the air vents between the freezer and fridge, and note any FF or rF fan error on the display. If the fridge is still warm after that, the cause is usually a failed fan motor, a defrost fault, the linear compressor or a control board — that's when to call a technician.

When a Las Vegas summer hits 110°F, your refrigerator works overtime. If you open your LG fridge to warm air and melting groceries, start with these three checks.

1. Clean the condenser coils (the desert special)

Las Vegas is dusty. Desert dust plus pet hair clogs the condenser coils, usually at the bottom back or behind the front grille. When the coils can't release heat, the inside of the fridge warms up.

DIY fix: unplug the refrigerator, remove the base grille or back panel, and vacuum the coils with a brush attachment. Doing this every 6 months is the number-one way to extend a refrigerator's life in Nevada.

2. Check for frost and blocked airflow

Freezer cold but fridge warm? LG refrigerators use a fan to push cold air from the freezer into the fresh-food section. If the automatic defrost fails, thick ice can build up over the evaporator coil and block the vents.

DIY fix: make sure food isn't blocking the vents inside the fridge. If you suspect heavy ice behind the freezer panel, you can defrost manually by unplugging the fridge and leaving the doors open for 24 hours. That clears the ice but doesn't fix the defrost failure that caused it, and 24 hours without a fridge in Las Vegas is tough — if you can't wait, call a pro.

3. Read the fan error codes: FF and rF

  • Er FF — freezer fan error: the fan that circulates cold air is stuck or not running, often because of ice.
  • Er rF — refrigerator fan error: a problem with the fan motor itself or its wiring.

DIY fix: a hard reset (unplug for 10 minutes) can clear a glitch. If ice is blocking the fan, the manual defrost above may help. If the fan motor has burned out, it has to be replaced.

When to stop DIY and call a technician

LG linear compressors and electronic boards are complex. If you've cleaned the coils, checked the vents and the fridge still won't cool, working on electrical parts yourself can cause more expensive damage. We repair LG refrigerators across Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City, usually the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my LG refrigerator not cooling but the freezer is cold?

Usually the fan that moves cold air from the freezer has stopped, or ice from a defrost failure is blocking the airflow.

What does FF mean on an LG refrigerator?

It's a freezer fan error — the fan isn't running correctly, often because ice is blocking it.

How often should I clean my refrigerator coils in Las Vegas?

Every 6 months, or every 3 months with pets.
