The most common LG washer codes are OE (not draining), IE (not filling), UE (unbalanced), LE (motor locked), dE or dL (door or lid not locked) and PE (water level sensor). OE, IE and UE are often owner-fixable — clean the drain pump filter, open the faucets, rebalance the load. LE, PE, FE and dE that won't clear need a technician.
Try this first
- Turn the washer off and unplug it for 5 minutes, then restart.
- For water codes, check both faucets are open and the drain hose isn't kinked.
- Run Rinse + Spin with an empty drum to see if the code returns.
Water codes
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|
| OE | Drain error | Clean the drain pump filter (front loaders: bottom-front panel) and check the hose. If the pump hums or is silent, it needs replacing. |
| IE | Water didn't fill in time | Open faucets fully, clean the inlet screens. If water is on, the inlet valve or pressure sensor is suspect. |
| FE | Overfill | Unplug if water keeps coming in — usually an inlet valve stuck open. Call. |
| PE | Water level (pressure) sensor error | Sensor, its hose or wiring. Call. |
| AE | Leak detected (front load) | Check under the washer and around the door boot and hoses. Call if water is inside the cabinet. |
| SUD | Too many suds | Use HE detergent at the low line. |
Spin, motor and door codes
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|
| UE | Load couldn't be balanced | Redistribute the load; level the washer. If every load does it, check shocks or suspension rods. |
| LE | Motor locked or can't turn | With power off, check the drum turns freely. Usually the rotor position sensor, stator or wiring — call. |
| dE / dE1 / dE2 | Door not closed or not locked | Close firmly; remove items caught in the gasket. Repeats mean the door lock assembly. |
| dL | Top load: lid not locked | Close the lid firmly; if the lock clicks but dL stays, the lid lock has failed. |
| tE | Water temperature sensor error | Call for repair. |
Not a failure
| Code | What it means | What you can do |
|---|
| dr | Draining after the washer sat paused | Normal. |
| ub | Rebalancing in progress | Normal; if it never finishes, treat it as UE. |
Codes and their meaning can vary by model and production year, and the same code can have different causes. Where sources disagree we say so; in every case the exact cause is confirmed only by a technician's on-site diagnosis. Your owner's manual has the definitive list for your model.
Stay safe
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before touching anything inside it, and never open a sealed refrigeration system, a gas valve or a microwave. If a code points to a part, the part has to be tested before it is replaced; we do that on the $75 diagnostic visit, credited toward the repair.
