Stacked washer and dryer after repair

Dryer Not Heating? 7 Checks to Do Before You Call

If your dryer runs but doesn't heat, check both halves of the 240V breaker (electric) or that the gas valve is open (gas), clean the lint screen, make sure the vent isn't crushed or clogged, and confirm you're not on an air-dry or low-heat setting. If it still won't heat, the usual causes are a blown thermal fuse (often from a clogged vent), a burned-out heating element, or a weak gas igniter or valve coils.

7 checks you can do safely

  1. Check the breaker (electric). Electric dryers use a double 240V breaker. If one half trips, the drum turns but there's no heat.
  2. Check the gas valve (gas). The valve handle behind the dryer should be parallel to the pipe.
  3. Check the setting. Make sure you're not on Air Fluff, Wrinkle Release or a delicate low-heat cycle.
  4. Clean the lint screen. Wash it with a brush and water if dryer sheets have left a film.
  5. Check the vent hose. Behind the dryer, the transition hose shouldn't be crushed or kinked; replace foil hose with semi-rigid metal duct.
  6. Feel the outside vent. With the dryer running, there should be strong, warm airflow at the outside hood.
  7. Read the code. Samsung HC/tS and LG d80–d95/tE codes point straight to airflow or heat faults.

When to call a technician

  • No heat with the breaker and gas confirmed (thermal fuse, element, igniter or valve coils).
  • The dryer gets very hot or smells like burning — stop using it.
  • It shuts off mid-cycle or takes two cycles even with a clean vent.

Stay safe

Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before touching anything inside it, and never open a sealed refrigeration system, a gas valve or a microwave. If a code points to a part, the part has to be tested before it is replaced; we do that on the $75 diagnostic visit, credited toward the repair.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my dryer stop heating after I cleaned the lint screen?

The thermal fuse may have already blown from earlier overheating; it has to be replaced and the vent cleared.

Is a dryer that doesn't heat dangerous?

No heat itself isn't, but overheating from a clogged vent is a fire risk — fix the airflow.

How much does dryer repair cost in Las Vegas?

Most dryer repairs cost $150–$350; motors and control boards $300–$600.
